A Mission to Improve Our Communities

25045 - A New Clendenin, Inc. (25045-ANC), was formed on December 15, 2003. Our mission is to attract new investments and development to the Clendenin, West Virginia area (zip code 25045), to facilitate joint activities among the Community through educational and recreational endeavors, and to seek, receive and accept funds from public and private gifts, trusts, grants, loans, and other sources of funding to promote the purposes of 25045.

We are organized as a nonprofit, non-stock, tax-exempt corporation under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and operate solely for charitable and educational purposes.

In April and May, 2005, 25045-ANC acquired the old Clendenin Middle School property on Koontz Avenue in Clendenin, WV. With a grant from Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the corporation began the process of restoring the school property in 2005.

In March 2006, 25045-ANC acquired the iconic Roxy Theater in Clendenin which had fallen into disrepair.

Also in March 2006, 25045-ANC acquired title to property on Maywood Avenue in Clendenin. That property is now leased to the United States Postal Service.

Clendenin Middle School was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. Starting in 2009 and into 2010, with grants from the Harper Family Foundation, Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, and other federal funding, 25045-ANC entered into transactions that resulted in title to the main school building being held by Clendenin School, L.P., with the corporation as a limited partner. The middle floor of the school was rented to Cabin Creek Health Systems, which now operates a health clinic serving thousands of patients each year. The bottom floor and top floor were transformed into eighteen apartments known as Riverview at Clendenin School. 25045-ANC retained ownership of the Koontz Gym and the office space underneath it.

25045-ANC rents the gym for special events (conventions, expos, dances, homecomings, birthday parties, etc.) and for athletic events. It also has 1,612 square feet of office space available for rent beside the library.

In 2010, with grant money through the State Historic Preservation Office, 25045-ANC began the work of replacing the roof on the Roxy Theater, repairing the walls that were damaged, and fixing the marquee on the front of the building.

In 2010, 25045-ANC conveyed a portion of the school property (the old band building) to the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority.

Soon after additional funding was received to continue work on the interior of the Roxy Theater, the 1000-Year Flood of 2016 flooded the ground floor of the school and the Roxy Theater. The situation with replacing the Riverview at Clendenin School apartments is currently in a state of flux.

25045-ANC is now regaining its momentum after The Flood and is committed to raising the funds necessary to complete the interior of the Roxy Theater as a multi-cultural center for low-cost movies, theater and dance, musical performances, educational classes for youth and adults, and other community events.
